Palm Course Angel Park

The first drive of the day was ugly per usual. I hooked it bad right and curse the world after the shot. The second shot was bad and it looked to be a bad day. By the 4th hole the driver swing was going decent and I hit a good drive. I caught the second shot a little low from 150ish but it bounce and rolled to with in 6 feet. I drained the putt for my first biridie on the round.

A couple holes later was the first par 5. I smashed a drive about 270 and was able to get on the green with a second shot since we were playing from the whites. I missed the eagle putt but was able to sink the short birdie putt. So within the first 7 holes I was able to put together a couple holes with 2 straight shots. So I was feeling good about using the stack and tilt.

The problem that I have with it is lining up my irons. I line up the driver good using the system but the book isn’t that clear when hitting the irons so it’s feast or famine when hitting my irons. When I put together 2 straight good shots a drive and an iron shot I have a good chance at birdie. All it takes is a little more practice but in using the system the last couple of weeks I have seen great improvement in my ball striking which makes me want to play even more Golf.

I switch to Ping’s last month and have added the Daddy Long Legs putter to the the bag. I’m also using the Pro V1x balls and they really don’t spin as much as the Pro V1 and I love the V1x’s. We all fit our clubs to our game and I am very happy with how my G25 driver and Irons are performing at the moment. I hope to be able to continue my progress.

The fun at Rhodes Ranch Golf Course may have come to an end with my round today. In the middle of re=working my swing with the Stack & Tilt method Rhodes has served as a good home course the past 2 years. As with any relationship we have had our ups and downs, but it has supplied a well maintained course to play. Today started off rough but ended up being a very fun round.

I think a lot of times since we play early my body has woken up. Today seemed to be a good example of that. Although I never play the front half overly well it got off to a very rocky start on course. First drive of the day was kind of short and to the right but was playable. My ball striking was so so per usual. The front 9 was filled with many curse words in the English language. About hole 5 I decided to abandon Stack and Tilt.

I had a couple of horrid swings and then I had a self talk and went back to the Stack and Tilt. I molded it to my swing style and a little magic happened. After we started the back 9 the drives started to go far and straight. The drive of the day happened on 18. I hit the drive about 275 yards on a 348 yardage. Then I came crashing back to Earth after I chunked the next shot.

HP Byron Nelson 2013

Keegan Bradley led the tournament after 54 holes. It was a windy Sunday at the HP Byron Nelson is Texas. Sang Moon Bae was in the Final Pairing with Bradley. Early in the round when Keegan was par’n holes, Bae was feasting on birdies.

At one point Bae had a 4 stroke lead but quickly came back down to Earth after a double and a single bogey back to back on 9 and 10. After that the drama was up and down.

Bae bogeyed 15th to give Bradley life but then birdied 16 to hold on to a one shot win at -13.

Great to see Golfers who were/are young Phenom’s win and get the monkey off their backs. Bae had won 11 times before today but this was his first PGA win. Have to bring your A game on Sundays. Keegan Bradley set a course record on Thursday but couldn’t close. Records are nice but when you don’t win the record is all you have when your on the Golf Channel, then when someone breaks it you are quickly forgotten. You will always be a winner. Records are always broken.

Stack and tilt worked better. Hit some bombs off the tee. Have to fit it for my swing. Grinding.

2013 Players Championship

The Final round at the TPC saw Tiger, Sergio and Lingmerth all entered the Final Round tied at 11 under. Lingmerth and Sergio enjoyed being in the Final pairing minus Tiger, with Woods playing a group before the 2. The Final Round had drama going into it. Sergio was upset about Tiger drawing a club and the club going crazy. Tiger shot a Final round -2 to win his first players championship in 10 years. Tiger closed with a par on 18 as Lingmerth bogeyed 18 to tied for 2nd with Maggertt and another. Tiger notches win number 78.

Congrats to Tiger to win his 4th tourney this year.

Wells Fargo Championship

For the second week in a row a rookie won on the PGA Tour. This week’s victim of the Sunday choke was non other than Phil Mickelson. Rainy conditions in North Carolina pushed tee times to earlier times. Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Charles Howell III all challenged early but faded late. Phil had bogeys on 16 and 17 to seal his fate.

PING Pro Derek Ernst on capturing his 1st PGA TOUR victory at the Wells Fargo Championship! To secure the win, Derek made par on the first hole of a sudden death playoff. On his way to the title, he used an i20 Driver (8.5°), i15 Fairway Wood (14°), Anser Hybrid (17°), S56 Irons (3-PW), Tour Wedges (54°, 58°) and a Scottsdale TR Grayhawk putter.

Congrats to Derek for securing his card for the next couple of years and being able to play in Hawaii and Augusta next year! Ping:Play your best!
